Bootleg Like Jazz, #bllj, is a podcast for the underdog. It’s a mixture of the Black Diaspora and the Afro-Latin cornucopia, subjugation and determination. The Black American experience began as a diminished experience- we were labeled 3/5ths of a human but our souls couldn’t be denied. Here comes jazz, in order to learn how to play music Black folks had to learn by ear as slave codes and other systems of oppression made it illegal to learn to read or write. Melanin folk had to improvise and learn by watching other people perform, playing by ear and from knowledge passed down. That’s Bootleg Like Jazz.
