Happy MLK Day!!!

What Dr. Martin Luther King Jr meant to me…

I don’t know when Dr. King became important to me but he has for sure had a tremendous impact on me. I remember exploring his writings about non-violent civic engagement/disobedience. Listen, being a guy who at times goes against the grain, I naturally gravitated to this philosophy and definitely romanticized the civil rights era. During those times of personal development I leaned heavily into the speeches, writings, themes and events that shaped this period of time. Some days I’d read and listen to whole speeches for leisure. Being a podcaster it should come as no surprise that I am a fan of his voice. Man I could listen to him for hours. Well, as the day comes to a close let’s not forget the reason for the holiday – “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – MLK

Here is what Dr. King means to me:

Yvonne McCullough and The 7 Minutes With Q Podcast

Many brands focus on skin tone, hair texture, and size which; inadvertently tell women who don’t meet that criteria, β€œthis way is good” and β€œthis way is bad”; which oftentimes cause women that are in the β€œbad” category to overcompensate negatively ie. unhealthy relationships, body dysmorphia, becoming slaves to vanity to the point we lose focus on other gifts we may have to offer to the world, etc.

Yvonne remembers dealing with β€œbody shaming” as a child and teen. Society often (decided) that she was β€œtoo thin” or that she β€œneeded to eat more” to meet the requirement society imposed on her.

Rewind: Recording Artist Guch

Rewind: Recording Artist Guch

“Louisiana native,” Andrea Clay discovered her love for music at the age of 5. Inspired by 2Pac, a liberated and educated thug, she began writing conscious and subconscious lyrics in 95. Throughout her childhood she turned to music like a security blanket and made the studio her safe zone. Initially “Infinity”, the lyrical whiz took on the pseudonym: GUCH.  “Infinity didn’t define me…I mean, the name was cool,  and of course I want my music to be everlasting but when my friends asked me how I was…I always replied ‘I’m Guchhh.’ Meaning..I’m good..nothing bothers  me.”

Digging into her story further, it became evident that in music Andrea really is Guchhh, unbothered. No matter the worries of the world she maintains a constant peace. In spite of familial hardships and unfathomable circumstances, GUCH has remained true to her passion.

When asked about her support system, the list was too vast to be listed.  Of course, her family and friends were mentioned, but she was certain to give all Glory and Honor to God for the privilege to be capable of converting emotions of herself as well as others through music.

Her personality matches her passion.  In her spare time she volunteers and works in her music.  She enjoys working with children with special needs.  This is one artist in tune with what matters.
